Dementia Awareness Training

This course is for all health care professionals .The participants will be able to support patients in identifying the early warning signs and progression of the disease to diagnosis, the benefits of various evidence based treatments, monitoring side effects  to monitor and manage their diabetes effectively in line with current NICE Guidelines.

Chapter 1 : Introduction to Dementia

What is dementia and can it be prevented? Dementia statistics, the types of dementia and the people most at risk. The challenge is to gain understanding that dementia  does not prevent a person from continuing to live life to the full as we all hope to do, having both good, and not so good days, in our moment to moment experience of life. Complies fully with current UK legislation.

Chapter 2 : Symptoms of Dementia

The role of a carer, memory loss, disorientation, personality change, difficulties with everyday tasks and words and how dementia progresses. One of the important things to recognise about dementia is that it is more than just difficulties with memory.

Chapter 3 : Diagnosis

Contacting a doctor, early diagnosis, how dementia is diagnosed, contacting a support group, living and work arrangements, driving, legal and financial affairs and treatment for dementia.

Chapter 4 : Caring for Someone with Dementia

Remaining independent, managing relationships, memory aids, everyday life, diet and general health and getting further help and support.

Chapter 5 : Patient centred Approaches

It’s important to focus on the person rather than the illness.Each person with dementia will change and react to their difficulties in a different way.It is very helpful to know about a person. This will help to think about what the person could be experiencing.Finding out all about a person’s life is very important.
