Epilepsy Awareness Training
This face to face course provides learners with an in-depth insight and understanding of the causes of epilepsy or seizures from the diagnosis stage, presenting symptoms, monitoring and management of someone presenting with an episode, various current evidence based pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. The benefits of patient centred care, family involvement and principles of ethics and consent.
Chapter 1 : What is epilepsy or seizures
This chapter will help participants understand the basics, answer the most common questions, and find resources and other information needed to understand what is epilepsy.
Chapter 2 :The Causes and symptoms of epilepsy
Participants will learn how epilepsy affect different age groups,a change in the structure of the brains that causes the electrical storms of seizures, why infections of the brain are also common causes of epilepsy and how epilepsy and Autism have link.
Chapter 3 : Risk factors associated with epilepsy
Participants will learn why a risk factor is something that makes a person more likely to develop seizures and epilepsy, and why it can cause scarring of the brain or lead to areas of the brain not developing or working right. Fianlly, whats associated and included with the Risk factor
Chapter 4 : Caring for Someone with Epilepsy
Remaining independent, managing relationships, memory aids, everyday life, diet and general health and getting further help and support.
Chapter 5 : Patient centred Approaches
It’s important to focus on the person rather than the illness.Each person with dementia will change and react to their difficulties in a different way.It is very helpful to know about a person. This will help to think about what the person could be experiencing.Finding out all about a person’s life is very important.
