Medication Management
This face to face course enhances your knowledge and skills, builds your confidence in Medication Administration, delivering all the relevant up-to-date information in 3 – 4 hour session. This course is ideal for Healthcare Professionals who have a direct responsibility of receiving, storing, administering and disposing of medication to practice in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as the UK regulator.
Chapter 1 : Patient Group Directives
PGDs allow health care professionals specified within the legislation to supply and/or administer a medicine directly to a patient with an identified clinical condition without the need for a prescription or an instruction from a prescriber. The health care professional working within the PGD is responsible for assessing that the patient fits the criteria set out in the PGD.
Chapter 2 : Patient Self Administration
Self-Administration of Medicines is a multi-disciplinary process designed to give patients the opportunity to continue to take their own medication whilst in hospital, and to provide knowledge to patients about their medicines. This guidance is designed to assist organisations in identifying when self-administration of medicines in inpatient settings should be used.
Chapter 3 : Drug interactions
Anytime you take more than one medication, or even mix it with certain foods, beverages, or over-the-counter medicines, you are at risk of a drug interaction. Most drug interactions are not serious, but because a few are, it is important to understand the possible outcome before you take your medications.
Chapter 4 : Medication Errors
A medication error is defined as “any preventable event that may cause or lead to inappropriate medication use or patient harm while the medication is in the control of the healthcare professional, patient, or consumer,” according to the National Coordinating Council for Medication Error reporting and Prevention
Chapter 5 : Record Keeping
Records management, also known as records and information management, is an organizational function devoted to the management of information in an organization throughout its life cycle, from the time of creation or receipt to its eventual disposition.
