Understanding Challenging Behaviour
Mandatory and Statutory Training was developed to meet the required learning outcomes in the Skills for Care’s Care Certificate, Skills for Health’s UK Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF) and Care Quality Commission (CQC) recommendations for health and social care providers.
Chapter 1 : Understanding behaviour that challenges
In this chapter participants will gain an understanding of how behaviour can be perceived as challenging, the underlying issues that affect behaviour and the impact it can have on others.
Chapter 2 : Understand how to support positive behaviour
This chapter will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of how to identify behavioural changes and triggers that may escalate behaviour, as well as how strategies and support plans can promote positive behaviour.
Chapter 3 : Understand the importance of effective communication and the management of behaviour that challenges
This chapter will provide participants knowledge of the impact communication can have on the management of behaviour that challenges. Learners will also investigate the role of positive reinforcement, techniques to de-escalate behaviour and referral services that are available to support themselves and the individual.
Chapter 4 : Understand the role of reflection and support for those involved in incidents of behaviour that challenges
This chapter will provide participants will gain an understanding of the importance of reflection following an incident of behaviour that challenges. They will also understand the consequences of their actions and how to maintain their own well-being.
Chapter 5 : Monitoring and Review
A key aspect of monitoring is being able to collect accurate information about:
- facts
- opinions
- reports
- outputs
- behaviour
- error levels
- complaints.
Monitoring techniques need not be elaborate, but they should fit the purpose, be timely and appropriate.
